The rocks exposed on the crest north of Serra di Pigno are felsic gneisses with a tightly spaced foliation and horizons of more mafic blueschist-facies metamorphic rocks that can be recognized by the typical mineral glaucophane. These rocks are relics of continental crust metamorphosed during subduction due to a higher temperature and pressure conditions.
